Nottingham Forest and Stoke City want Burnley defender – moves made

The Sun journalist Alan Nixon has revealed that Burnley defender Kevin Long has attracted the attention of Championship pair Nottingham Forest and Stoke City, with the two sides making moves for the 28-year-old.

We covered reports here on The72 earlier this week claiming that Nottingham Forest were keen to sign Aberdeen defender Scott McKenna, but now it has emerged that the club have identified a new potential target at centre-back.

Stoke City have also been linked with a centre-back in the past week, with Newcastle United’s Ciaran Clark said to be on the radar of the Potters, but they too have made moves for a different centre-back.

Both Nottingham Forest and Stoke City are said to have made moves to sign Burnley defender Kevin Long this summer, and a late move for the centre-back is possible, according to journalist Alan Nixon, But, Long’s immediate future could change depending on Clarets man James Tarkowski, he added.

Long, 28, came through the youth academy with Cork City in the Republic of Ireland before making a move to Burnley in 2009. Since making the move to Turf Moor, Long has spent time on loan with Accrington Stanley (43 appearances, four goals and one assist), Rochdale (16 games, one assist), Portsmouth (six games), Barnsley (13 games, two goals) and MK Dons (two games).

He has played 62 times for Burnley in his 10 years with the club, featuring 12 times last season across all competitions. Now, with the end of the window closing in, it awaits to be seen how his situation at Turf Moor develops with Tarkowski being linked with a move away.
