Mateusz Klich with cheeky dig at Bristol City during pre-match build up.

Leeds United start their 2019/20 campaign on Sunday against Bristol City at Ashton Gate in a 16:30 KO, with the build up throwing out underhand digs from both sides. Today is was the turn of Leeds midfielder Mateusz Klich.

Leeds United midfielder Mateusz Klich (43) scores a goal and celebrates 0-1 with The Leeds United players during the EFL Sky Bet Championship match between Norwich City and Leeds United at Carrow Road, Norwich, England on 25 August 2018.

Here are a few snippets from that interview, including a cheeky little dig at Sundays opponents, undoubtedly designed to play psychological games with the southern club…

When asked about being favourites this year…

“I think this season the pre season was easier for us and we are in even better shape. We learned his way of football last season so this pre season was quick for us and easier, very hard, don’t get me wrong, but easier to understand. Hopefully also this season we score more goals and achieve the end goal.”

When asked about new signing Helder Costa he had this to say…

“To be fair I can’t wait to play with him and Ben White has looked very decent as well. Helder is a great player and he dribbles a lot, we missed that last season and Marcelo likes a player like this.”

On personal improvement…

“To be fair I can’t wait to play with him and Ben White has looked very decent as well. Helder is a great player and he dribbles a lot, we missed that last season and Marcelo likes a player like this.”

His views on boss Marcelo Bielsa…

“I think he had a big impact and he improved everyone a lot, he improved the whole team – the season before we were mid table and last season we almost got to the Premier League and I hope this season the improvement is the same”

And on Sundays opponents, Bristol City…

“Every game in the Championship is hard and it’s the same as Bristol away. There was a lot of talk about them wanting to play us in the play-offs last season but they had one shot on target against us last season so let’s hope it’s the same this time.”

A very mild but very obvious jibe at the Robins.

This follows Bristol City boss making several references to Spygate in his press conferences in the build up to the new campaign, so with the game due to be aired on Sky this weekend, it should make for interesting viewing.
