‘Leeds United should move for Southampton striker to fill attacking void’ says former England international

Leeds United have been urged to consider signing Southampton striker Charlie Austin to fill their attacking void by former England international Darren Bent according to Football Insider.

Bent believes that with Kemar Roofe seemingly on his way to Anderlecht with a medical scheduled for this weekend that Austin could prove to be a ready made replacement.

With less than a week until the transfer window slams shut, Leeds are looking increasingly threadbare up front with Roofe looking to depart and Bamford still struggling for form and confidence.

Fans will be eager for the club to make a promising start to the season as they look to aim for promotion to the Premier League following last season’s disappointing loss to Derby County in the play-off semi finals.

Austin and Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl have reportedly had a huge bust up during training and the player has been forced to train with the under-23’s which has left him furious.

The 29-year-old is deemed surplus to requirements at St.Mary’s and is now seeking a future away from the club.

Leeds are likely to be in the market for a striker in the final week of the window and Bent believes Austin could be their man.

“Leeds need a new centre-forward, and someone like Charlie Austin would be ideal.” He knows the Championship well, he’s scored a lot of goals in that division and, if you keep him fit, he’ll be prolific.”

“He’d be a brilliant signing for Leeds. It’s feasible. Why not? Southampton are willing to let him go and it might be best for him to drop down a division like I did.

“As a striker, there’s no better feeling than hitting the net. There’s no worse feeling than not playing. It’s not like Leeds are a small club. They’re massive.”

There is no doubt that when Austin is fit he is more than capable of scoring goals at Championship level and despite him being a different type of striker to Roofe he could be just the answer to their goalscoring questions.
