Leeds United face real dilemma as striker transfer interest from Anderlecht “is serious”

Leeds United face something of a dilemma with Belgian top-tier side Anderlecht showing some “serious” interest according to former Yorkshire Evening Post reporter Phil Hay on Twitter.

Roofe is currently out injured for the first few weeks of the 2019/20 Sky Bet Championship season after an ankle injury received during the Australia tour friendly against Western Sydney Wanderers. There has been rumoured interest from Scottish giants Rangers, an interest that was soon exposed for the flim-flam that it was.

However, the view of respected reporter Hay is the first time that United will face real interest in a striker who cost them a reported £3.15million from Oxford United and who is entering into the final year of his current deal.

He enters into this final year of his deal on the back of a season that was easily his most successful as a White.  The former West Brom youngster scored 15 goals across last season and added two assists in a campaign that was also blighted by injury.

Interested side Anderlecht finished in 4th place last season, 12 points behind eventual champions Genk. They struggled for goals, netting just 49 over the course of their campaign. Top scorer was  Croatian striker Ivan Santini with 14 goals, although he has just been transferred to Chinese Super League side Jiangsu Suning for £4.5million.

With Santini’s sale, Anderlecht are obviously in the hunt for a proven goalscorer and their Manchester City defender truned manager Vincent Kompany obviously likes what he sees in the Leeds United hitman.
