Derby County manager confirms they are closing in on ‘one or two signings’

Derby County are closing in on ‘one or two signings’ in the next 24 to 48 hours according to the Derby Telegraph.

The Rams are making significant progress in the transfer market as they look to add some  fresh faces to the squad ahead of the upcoming Championship campaign.

Manager Phillip Cocu said that he expected the club to make some new signings within the next week and the news is that discussions with potential transfers appear to be speeding up rapidly.

Cocu is looking to strengthen his defence as well as further forward in attacking areas. They will also be looking to replace the voids left by the departures of Harry Wilson and Mason Mount whose loan spells expired as they returned to parent clubs Liverpool and Chelsea respectively.

As we reported earlier today they are amongst the clubs interested in Arsenal’s Krystian Bielik, the 21-year-old Polish player who can play centre back or defensive midfield.

Cocu is monitoring a number of options in this summer’s transfer market as they look to push for promotion once again next season as they narrowly missed out in the last campaign losing to Aston Villa in the play off final.

Cocu’s one signing so far is midfielder Kieran Dowell on a season-long loan from Everton who spent last season on loan at Sheffield United and contributed some impressive performances during the Blades’ promotion campaign.

They have also acquired in a free transfer in the shape of Graeme Shinnie, previously of Aberdeen but Cocu will be looking to make further additions before they kick off the 2019/20 season against Huddersfield Town.
