Nottingham Forest poised to beat Birmingham City to signing of Premier League striker

Nottingham Forest look set to beat Championship rivals Birmingham City to the signing of Wolves striker Rafa Mir.

The Reds are close to acquiring the 22-year-old on a loan deal, according to journalist Alan Nixon on Twitter.

The Spain Under-21 international has fallen down the pecking order at Nuno Espiritio Santo’s side and is likely to leave on loan again next season for more first team opportunities.

He spent the last campaign on loan in the Spanish second tier with Las Palmas and scored seven goals in 30 games.

Wolves signed him in January 2018 and he was part of their side who won promotion to the Premier League two seasons ago. However, he has not played regularly for them.

He started his career with spells as a youngster at Barcelona and Murcia before Valencia snapped him up 2012. He was a key player for their B team before going onto make six appearances for their senior side.

There was a lot of excitement when Wolves brought him to Molinuex and he could still have a future there if he can impress this season in the Championship.

Mir will offer Forest more depth and options in attack and will be eager to prove the doubters wrong.

It is a blow to Birmingham City though and they will have to turn their attentions elsewhere now.
