Luton Town’s move for fellow Championship striker put on hold

Isaac Vassell’s proposed loan move to Luton Town from Birmingham City has been put on hold.

The Blues are waiting to bring in a striker before letting him leave for their fellow Championship side, according to journalist Alan Nixon on Twitter.

Vassell, who is 25 years-old, is expected to return to Luton where he scored 16 goals in 55 appearances during his time there in League Two a couple of years ago.

He started his career at Plymouth Argyle and rose through the youth ranks at Home Park. He went onto make ten appearances for their first-team as well as enjoying loan spells at Truro City, Bideford and Weymouth.

Plymouth released Vassell in 2014 so he re-signed for Truro on a permanent deal. He scored 28 goals for them in 94 games which earned him a move to Luton in 2016 after a trial.

Birmingham paid a fee in the region of £1 million in August 2017 to sign him from Kenilworth Road. However, he has had his injury problems since his move to St Andrews and has been limited to just 24 appearances.

Luton are preparing for life in the Championship and Vassell would offer them more options and depth in their attacking department.

Graeme Jones’ side have delved into the transfer market to bring in goalkeeper Simon Sluga, Callum McManaman, Brendan Galloway, Ryan Tunnicliffe and Martin Cranie.

They kick-start their campaign at home to Middlesbrough on Friday and will be looking to get off to a positive start.
