West Brom have announced the signing of Romaine Sawyers from fellow Championship side Brentford on their official club website today.
The 27-year-old has returned to where his career began on a three-year deal.
The Birmingham-born midfielder started out at Albion as a youngster and rose up through the youth ranks at the Hawthorns. However, he never made a senior appearance for the Baggies but did gain first team experience out on loan in the Football League with the likes of Port Vale, Shrewsbury Town and Walsall as a youngster.
Walsall signed him on a permanent deal in 2013 and he went onto play 157 times for the Saddlers, chipping in with 19 goals before Brentford snapped him up in July 2016 and he has been with them ever since in the second tier.
Sawyers has said, as per the Baggies’ website: “It’s been a long time coming and feel like I have unfinished business. This is the first team that I have always wanted to play for and I’m delighted I’m now going to get that chance. I left the club when I was just a boy with a lot of potential. But I am coming back as a man who has matured as a player.”

Really happy with the Saywers deal. #wba have been missing a bit of magic from midfield for a few seasons now. Hope he's the answer.

Sawyers looks a great signing although frustrating in that it's been blindingly obvious a lack of presence, craft, mobility & athleticism in midfield has hampered us massively (personally think it took us down) & this is 1st time in 3 years anybody has done anything about it #wba

Another good signing with Sawyers. Defiantly adding some legs to our midfield. Looking dynamic now #wba
