Middlesbrough sign West Ham winger on four-year deal

Middlesbrough have made their second signing of the summer, with West Ham United winger Marcus Browne arriving on a four-year deal.

The news was confirmed by Middlesbrough’s official website, with Browne having made the move from London in a deal believed to be in the region of just £300,000.

Boro Head Coach Jonathan Woodgate had previously spoken out about the need for pace in the side, and Browne has this in abundance. The Teessiders haven’t replaced the direct running power of Adama Traore since his departure to Premier League side Wolves, and Browne will give Middlesbrough a much needed creative spark.

The North-East side were the lowest scorers in the top half of the table last season, and the youngster will be hoping he can help to bring up their tally for the forthcoming campaign.

Last season Browne enjoyed a successful loan spell at League One Oxford United, where he impressed manager Karl Robinson so much, that Robinson spoke of how he would do anything to get the 21-year old to re-sign for the club.

However, he has now opted for the Championship, and he could certainly play a huge part this season for Boro. The only natural wingers at the club are Marvin Johnson and Marcus Tavernier, with previous manager Tony Pulis opting for a five at the back formation to compensate for the lack of wide midfielders at his disposal.

Woodgate has now addressed this issue, and is still looking to recruit new faces in wide areas, with Portsmouth starlet Jamal Lowe high on his list of potential targets.
