Sevilla interest in Casilla to be thwarted by alternative Leeds United transfer decisions says Spanish source

Yesterday huge Spanish sport daily Marca published news that Sevilla were interested in Leeds United stopper Kiko Casilla. It was something that we reported on here at The72. However, fellow Spanish source Sevilla ABC say that Leeds United’s decisions could thwart that wish.

Sevilla’s interest in Casilla is said guided by legendary scout Monchi’s vision of rebuilding Los Nervionenses after a disappointing campaign that saw them finish in 7th. Under Monchi’s guidance, Sevilla have hit the transfer market with a vengeance and have already signed 10 players ahead of next season’s campaign.

Yesterday Marca said the Andalucian side are continuing  to plunge into the transfer market, guided by the legendary Monchi, and are “in search of those positions that need reinforcing.” One of those positions is in goal, where Sevilla are looking, ostensibly, for a back-up for current #1 Tomas Vaclik.

32-year-old former Real Madrid keeper joined Leeds United in January this year, instantly taking over from Bailey Peacock-Farrell as the Whites #1. There was much hope that his footballing pedigree would help create the solid base that would drive United back to the Premier League.

Things didn’t quite go to plan, with errors creeping into Casilla’s game; one blatant mistake was his sprint to clear against Derby County that led to the Rams opening goal at Elland Road in a 4-2 defeat that saw Leeds drop out of the Championship playoffs. There was some talk that, with a £30,000-per-week pay packet, United were looking to offload the former Real Madrid back-up.

However, reports in England say that Casilla has redoubled his efforts and is looking to stay at Elland Road and fight for his opportunity to help the Whites to promotion to the Premier League. Instead, as written about here on The72, West Yorkshire side Leeds are looking to sell not Kiko Casilla but current back-up Bailey Peacock-Farrell.

This sale of youngster Peacock-Farrell, who was #1 before Casilla arrived at Elland Road, is going to be the obstacle that frustrates Sevilla’s pursuit of Leeds #1 goalkeeper. With Peacock-Farrell looking likely to leave, and the Whites looking to bring in a young back-up, it seems that Kiko Casilla is staying at Elland Road next season.
