Middlesbrough youngster linked with Liverpool and Newcastle leaves club

Middlesbrough Head Coach Jonathan Woodgate spoke of giving youth a chance both in pre-season and in the upcoming regular season.

However, it speaks volumes that highly-regarded winger Bilal Brahimi has not featured for Middlesbrough so far in pre-season under the new manager.

The 19-year old featured just once last season for Tony Pulis, making his solitary appearance in the second round of the Carabao Cup against Rochdale, and the youngster impressed.

But although many people in and around the club wanted Brahimi to stay and make an impact in the under-23s to get a chance in the first team, the teenager spoke out about wanting to return to his native France.

Teesside Live have now reported that Brahimi has left Middlesbrough and signed for French outfit Stade de Reims. The news is yet to be confirmed by either club, but the player has posted a picture to his Instagram holding the Ligue 1 side’s shirt.

The winger was also generating interest from the Premier League, with both Liverpool and Newcastle were reportedly keen on signing him. Along with Stade de Reims, Rennes in France were also scouting Brahimi, although nothing came to fruition.

One of Middlesbrough best young stars may have left the club this week, but Woodgate will be excited to give youth a chance with the season fast approaching. Boro get their EFL campaign underway next Friday 2nd August away at Luton Town, and the new man in charge could be looking to introduce some young new faces into the squad.
