According to journalist Wayne Veysey, writing for Football Insider, Leeds United will look to make a last-minute move to try and snatch Brentford playmaker Romaine Sawyers from under the noses of fellow Championship side West Brom.
We reported here on The72 yesterday (Monday 22nd) that West Brom had jumped to the head of the chase for Brentford star Romaine Sawyers, with a number of sides interested in recruiting him ahead of the new season.
The Baggies had an initial bid of £2.2 million for the playmaker turned down, but it was revealed that the Baggies are readying a second bid for Sawyers, believed to be of £3 million. It is also said by Football Insider that the Brentford man has “indicated” he would be interested in making a move to West Brom. However, Slaven Bilic’s side look set to face a fight for Sawyers.
Leeds United are said to be ready to make a move to scupper the Baggies’ chances of signing Swayers this summer, with Marcelo Bielsa said keen to bring him to Elland Road this summer. Fellow Championship sides Middlesbrough and Stoke City have also been credited with interest in the 27-year-old, as have Scottish Premiership champions Celtic.
The attacking midfielder enjoyed a thoroughly successful season playing for Brentford last season, providing seven assists in his 46 appearances across all competitions, captaining Thomas Frank’s side on a number of occasions as well. In total, Sawyers has played 135 times for the Bees since joining from Walsall, scoring eight goals and laying on 20 assists along the way.
