West Brom make approach to bring loan favourite back to the Hawthorns

According to journalist Pete O’Rourke, writing for Football Insider, West Brom have made an enquiry about the possibility of bringing former loan defender Mason Holgate back to the club on loan from Premier League side Everton.

West Brom manager Slaven Bilic is tasked with bringing in a new crop of players ahead of the upcoming season, with the start of the campaign just a matter of weeks away. The Baggies are in need of a new right-back and have reportedly made their move to sign QPR defender Darnell Furlong.

Now, it has been claimed that West Brom have made an approach to try and sign Everton defender Mason Holgate on loan once again, having spent an enjoyable spell at the Hawthorns last season. The youngster featured heavily for the Baggies last season, playing the majority of his games at right-back, but Bilic is said to be keen to bring him in to play at centre-back for the upcoming campaign.

The 22-year-old played 23 times for the club last season, scoring one goal and providing four assists along the way. With Bilic set on bringing Holgate back to West Brom next season, it awaits to be seen if Everton sanction a move. Toffees boss Marco Silva is undecided on his plans for Holgate ahead of the upcoming season.

Should he remain at Goodison Park, Holgate would likely play more of a cover role for Silva, whereas out on loan with Slaven Bilic at West Brom, he would be given more game time.

It will be interesting to see how the Baggies’ chase for Holgate develops, with Everton yet to decide on the defender’s immediate future and West Brom determined to bring in more players ahead of the start of the season.
