Tranmere Rovers set to sharpen attack by signing Premier League striker

Tranmere Rovers are set to sign Aston Villa striker Rushian Hepburn-Murphy on a season-long loan.

The League One side are expected to conclude the deal soon, according to a report by Birmingham Live.

Hepburn-Murphy, who is 20 years-old, is being allowed to leave newly promoted Premier League side Villa on loan for the next campaign to gain some more first team experience.

Tranmere are still in the hunt for some signings to bolster their squad ahead of their upcoming third tier season. Micky Mellon’s side have so far brought in George Ray, Kieran Morris, Sid Nelson, Corey Blackett-Taylor, Calum Woods, Darren Potter and Stefan Payne since their promotion from League Two in May.

The Prenton Park club have now set their sights on Hepburn-Murphy as they look to add some energy and another option to their attacking department.

The Birmingham-born striker started his career at Villa and has risen up through their youth ranks. He was a key player for their younger sides before he was handed his senior debut in March 2015 in a top flight game against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.

Hepburn-Murphy, who is an England Under-20 international, has since played 14 more times for the Midlands club in all competitions but is still yet to score for them.

He spent the second half of last season on loan at fourth tier side Cambridge United and will be looking to build on that experience with Tranmere next term.
