Luton Town hoping to complete deal for Croatia international goalkeeper

Luton Town are keen on signing Rijecka goalkeeper Simon Sluga.

The Hatters have identified the Croatia international as their top goalkeeping target this summer, according to a report by Luton Today.

Sluga, who is 26 years-old, currently plays in the Croatian First Football League for Rijecka and played 35 games for them last season as they finished runners-up to Dinamo Zagreb.

Luton will have to smash their transfer record to bring the 6ft 3inc stopper to Kenilworth Road over the coming weeks.

Graeme Jones’ side have so far managed to sign Martin Cranie, Callum McManaman and Ryan Tunnicliffe on free transfers, as well as defender Brendan Galloway from Everton in preparation for their return to the Championship next season.

Their current goalkeeping options are Marek Stech, James Shea and youngster Harry Isted but Jones is keen to bring Sluga to the club as more competition for the number one spot.

Sluga, who got his first cap for Croatia last month in a friendly against Tunisia, has risen up through the youth ranks of his current side Rijecka.

He has had loan spells away at Pomorac, Lokomotiva and Italian Serie B side Spezia so far in his career. He also represented Croatia at all youth levels from Under-17 to Under-21 in his early career.

Luton will be hoping to tie up a deal for the shot stopper as soon as possible with the start of the season getting closer.
