West Brom striker subject of transfer offer – Chinese club gazump Premier League opposition

According to a report from the Express and Star, Chinese Super League side Dalian Yifang have made their move to try and sign West Brom striker Salomon Rondon this summer, as Rafael Benitez eyes up a reunion with the Venezuelan.

Rafael Benitez brought in striker Salomon Rondon on loan from West Brom during his time as manager of Newcastle United. The Venezuelan enjoyed an impressive spell at St James’ Park, scoring 12 goals and laying on seven assists. Upon the expiry of his loan, Rondon was keen to return to Newcastle permanently and Benitez was keen too. However, the tight pockets of owner Mike Ashley and his preferred transfer policy of signing younger players stood in the way of a permanent deal.

Now, with Rafael Benitez leaving Newcastle United upon the expiry of his contract to join up with Chinese side Dalian Yifang, he is keen to bring Rondon with him. And, it has now been revealed that Dalian have made their move to try and bring Rondon to China.

Premier League sides Everton, West Ham and Wolves were also interested in Rondon, but the offer from China is more than any other offer the Baggies have received. With Rondon keen to link up with Benitez once again, it seems Dalian Yifang are in the driving seat for his signature.

Rondon is set to leave the Hawthorns this summer with a £16.5 million release clause in his contract. Upon their relegation to the Championship, it was hoped that he would leave permanently last summer. But now, with Dalian Yifang determined to bring him in and both West Brom and Rondon keen for the move to go through, it awaits to be seen how the proposed transfer progresses over the coming days.
