Earlier this month, we covered here on The72 that Leeds United has reportedly completed the signing of Scottish starlet Stuart McKinstry from Motherwell.
Despite the reports emerging earlier this month, there had been no public confirmation of 16-year-old Stuart McKinstry’s transfer from Scottish Premiership side Motherwell to Leeds United from the club.
But now, McKinstry’s move to Leeds United has seemingly been made official, after he was named on the bench for the Whites’ pre-season friendly against non-league side Guiseley.
The club posted the team sheet for the club’s friendly with Guiseley, with the likes of star man Kalvin Phillips and new signing Helder Costa featuring. And, McKinstry was named alongside his new Leeds team mates, earning himself a place on the bench.

As shown in the tweet above, McKinstry features on the bench alongside a number of the club’s other academy players. Despite his involvement, the Scot did not appear in the Thursday night friendly.
The Whites went into the second half 1-0 down after Guiseley man Kaine Felix put the home side ahead after just nine minutes. Leeds dominated possession over the course of the half but couldn’t pull it back heading into the break.
But, second half goals from debutant Helder Costa and youngster Mateusz Bogusz ensured that Leeds United won their second game in two days, continuing their perfect start to pre-season.
With more games lined up for the Championship outfit ahead of the start of the 2019/20 season, it will be interesting to see if McKinstry is given the chance to make his first appearance in Leeds colours.
