Middlesbrough midfielder becomes Wycombe’s first summer signing

Middlesbrough midfielder Alex Pattison has joined Wycombe Wanderers on a one-year deal. The club confirmed the news via their official website.

Middlesbrough released Pattison last month after deciding not to renew his current contract, and Wycombe have taken full advantage by signing the attacking midfielder on a free.

The 21-year old signed his first professional contract with the Teesside club in 2017, but he didn’t go on to make his debut. Instead he was loaned to York City in two separate spells before a loan move to Yeovil Town last season.

He played 29 times for the Glovers but couldn’t prevent them from being relegated to the National League, as they finished bottom of League Two.

Upon signing, Wycombe manager Gareth Ainsworth was full of praise for the new signing.

“We weren’t expecting to be able to make permanent signings this summer, but the fans have got right behind us yet again when we needed them and contributed a significant amount of money which has enabled us to bring a player of Alex’s calibre to the club.

“Dobbo (assistant manager Richard Dobson) and I pay a lot of attention to the under-23 leagues and Alex is a player who’s stood out for us for some time. He had a good year in senior football with Yeovil last season and we believe he’s got all the attributes to go on and become a key player for us and potentially return to a higher level in his career.

“I’m sure all those fans will be looking forward to seeing Alex in action, because he’s a very talented player and a great lad who will settle quickly into the culture we’ve got here.”
