Aston Villa make bid for Burnley goalkeeper following end of interest in Jack Butland

Aston Villa have reportedly turned their attentions to Burnley goalkeeper Tom Heaton following the end of their interest in Jack Butland according to The Sun.

The newly promoted side have offered in the region of £7million for the Clarets goalkeeper however their valuation of him is thought to be much higher than that.

Heaton is becoming frustrated with his contract situation at Turf Moor and his head could be turned by the Premier League new boys should they make the right offer.

The former England international has entered contract talks with Sean Dyche’s side however he has turned down their initial offer which could pave the way for Villa to swoop in to sign him.

The 33-year-old was seen as an alternative to Villa’s previous top choice Jack Butland but having been put off Stoke City’s £25million asking price, the Midlands club are now looking at other options.

Heaton has had a tough time in recent years with injuries which subsequently forced him to miss crucial England games as well as long spells out for Burnley but a move to Villa could be the ideal place for him to take on a new challenge.

However Burnley will be eager to keep Heaton as he reinstated himself as their number one choice last season and with just one year left remaining on his contract they will be concerned and wanting to prevent him leaving on a free next summer.

With Heaton’s previous international experience with England and Premier League experience, he may be a real coup for Villa at a much cheaper price than Butland for whom Stoke are hoping to retain.
