West Brom eyeing up second Portugal raid with Porto starlet Slaven Bilic’s sights

According to a report from Portuguese newspaper A Bola (as cited by Sports Witness), West Brom manager Slaven Bilic’s raid on the Portuguese Primera Liga may not end at the loan signing of Benfica’s Filip Krovinovic, with FC Porto youngster Diogo Queiros reportedly in his sights.

The first signing of West Brom’s summer and the maiden signing of Slaven Bilic’s time at the Hawthorns was confirmed last week, with Benfica’s young Croatian playmaker Filip Krovinovic joining the Baggies on loan for the 2019/20 Championship season.

Now, it has been claimed that Bilic is looking to Portugal once again, and this time, he is looking to bolster his defensive options. FC Porto’s 20-year-old centre-back Diogo Queiros is reportedly on the former West Ham manager’s radar.

The Portuguese side are reportedly willing to let Queiros head out on loan for the new season to give him game-time and help his development, but they will need to bring in a new centre-back before letting him leave. Porto are currently short of defensive options but are pursuing a deal for Roma defender Marcano. Should they bring in Marcano, a move away for Queiros is set to be sanctioned.

Portugal starlet Queiros has worked his way through the youth ranks with Porto but is yet to make an appearance for the club’s first-team, playing his football for their second string side in the Portuguese second division. He has played 47 times for the club’s b-team and is now ready to make the step up to senior football, with a loan move on the cards.

West Brom will be hoping that they can pursue a deal to bring Queiros in for the new season, as Bilic looks to better last season’s result, in which the Baggies were defeated in the Championship play-offs by eventual winners Aston Villa.
