Manchester City closing in on signing of West Brom wonderkid

Manchester City are closing in on the signing of West Bromwich Albion wonderkid Morgan Rogers according to The Daily Mail.

The 16-year-old made his debut in the FA Cup against Brighton last season but it appears he is now destined for a move to the Premier League champions with talks between the player and club now at an advanced stage.

Albion will obtain a compensation package for the young starlet but that will be of little comfort with them seemingly about to lose a real bright and highly rated youngster.

The teenager has already starred for England at Under 17’s level and has drawn comparisons to Tottenham Hotspur’s Dele Alli due to his style of play and creativity.

The Baggies have been desperate to retain Rogers who hails from nearby Halesowen but he has recently rejected a contract offer from the Midlands club.

The England Under 17’s won the Syrenka Cup in Poland last year and Rogers hit the headlines as he scored against Norway and Portugal to end the tournament as the leading scorer.

It is no secret that West Brom have nurtured an endless amount of bright young talents over the past few years in particular but to lose yet another of their academy graduates will come as a huge blow to the club.

Over the last few days it has been reported that 16-year-old England youth international striker Louie Barry is due to sign for Spanish champions Barcelona for just £235,000 in compensation.

Whilst losing players to huge clubs such as Barcelona and Manchester City highlights the quality of the West Brom academy it begs the question of the reason for the Baggies in particular to have an academy if they are to keep losing potential quality players to ‘huge’ European clubs.
