Aston Villa go big to bring Mings home

According to Sky Sports live transfer tracker (Sunday 7th July, 16:17), Aston Villa have gone big AGAIN in the transfer market to bring Tyrone Mings back to Villa Park.

Mings, who is currently on the books of Premier League side Bournemouth, of course spent part of last season on loan at Villa in the Sky Bet Championship. His commanding presence over 15 games (two goals), and in the three-game Play-Offs caught the eye of Villa fans.

His performances were of a standard that equalled a double-edged sword of sorts. On one hand, the performances he put in were of a standard good enough to convince the Villans that they wanted him onboard and in the Premier League. Conversely, such was the standard of his performances that his value would inflate.

The latter has proven to be true, with Villa being said to have dug deep into their coffers to find £25million with which to convince Bournemouth to sell their imposing central defender.

For the Cherries, it represents a fantastic piece of business bearing in mind that they bought him for £10.1million from Ipswich at the start of July 2015. Yes, he had three years left on his current deal, one that he extended in early September 2017.

However, it was obvious that he wasn’t getting the exposure and look-in that his talents deserve at Bournemouth. A move to Villa, where he’ll feature more regularly in the Premier League, will be better for his footballing development.

In selling Mings, it could complete a journey from Yate Town in 2010, after his release by bristol Rovers Under-18s, to £25million Premier League starter in 2019.
