Blackburn Rovers goalkeeper secures move to Brentford

Blackburn Rovers goalkeeper David Raya secures a move to Brentford on a four-year deal, confirmed by the club website.

Blackburn Rovers goalkeeper David Raya secures a move to fellow Championship side Brentford on a four-year deal.

Brentford FC Head Coach, Thomas Frank spoke to the club website about the signing of David Raya: “I am very pleased to have David here. He is a very good goalkeeper and fits the profile of player that we want at Brentford. On the pitch, he is a young goalkeeper who comes here after two good seasons at Blackburn Rovers.

“He can play out from the back and is happy covering the space in behind, allowing us to play with a high line. We are 100 per cent sure that coming here, and working with Iñaki Caña, he can take his game to the highest level. Off the pitch, he has the character and the desire that we want to see in all players coming to Brentford.”

Last season, Raya made 41 appearances in all competitions and made ten clean sheets. He was the first choice goalkeeper for the majority of the season, but was dropped by Tony Mowbray in April.

Brentford have lost their first choice goalkeeper, Dan Bentley, to follow Championship side Bristol City. Bentley has put pen-to-paper on a four-year deal at Ashton Gate.

Bristol City’s Chief executive officer Mark Ashton said: “A lot of clubs were very keen but we were very determined to secure his services.

“Dan is very tuned in to the Bristol City philosophy and what we are trying to achieve here and our fans should be very excited about his arrival.”
