Sheffield United interested in ex-Huddersfield Town and QPR defender

Sheffield United are interested in free agent defender Joel Lynch.

The 31-year-old left Championship side QPR at the end of the season and is being looked at by the Blades, according to journalist Alan Nixon on Twitter.

Lynch, who is 6ft 1inc, has racked up over 350 appearances in his career and is weighing up his next move.

Sheffield United are preparing for life in the Premier League next season and have so far managed to bring in midfielder Luke Freeman from QPR and defender Phil Jagielka back to Bramall Lane.

Chris Wilder’s side could now swoop for Lynch to add more experience and depth into their defensive department.

Lynch, who was born in Eastbourne, started his career at Brighton and Hove Albion and rose up through their youth ranks. He went onto break into their first team as a youngster.

Nottingham Forest signed him in 2008 initially on loan but the deal was made permanent a few months later. He played 80 times for the Reds.

Lynch moved onto Huddersfield Town in July 2012 and became a key player in the Terriers’ backline, making over 100 appearances.

QPR then snapped him up for a fee of around £1.2 million in 2016 on a three-year deal which expired last month.

Eyebrows would be raised if he got a move to the top flight with Sheffield United this summer but Wilder is no stranger to making a shrewd signing and may see Lynch as someone who would bolster his squad.
