Nottingham Forest target Ligue 1 defender

Nottingham Forest have identified Saint-Ettiene defender Leo Lacroix as a man who could become Sabri Lambouchi’s first signing as Forest boss, according to the Nottingham Post.

Forest have had one of the more eventful off seasons, sacking club legend and manager Martin O’Neill after a disappointing five months in charge of the Championship club, and then announcing Sabri Lambouchi as his replacement, little over 15 minutes later.

The recently capped Swiss international has spent the last 18 months away from the nine-time French champions, as he has become out of favour.

The 6ft 6in centre-back came through the ranks at Swiss side, FC Sion, and earned his move to France in August 2016 but has since only featured 31 times in LIgue 1.

A loan spell at FC Basel did little to help his cause, and he spent the entirety of the 2018/19 in the 2. Bundesliga, with Hamburg, yet failed to dislodge David Bates and Rick van Drongelen, featuring only 16 times in the league.

Lacroix, a former Everton target, looks to be once again out of favour and despite the almost imminent departure of William Saliba to Arsenal, it’s unlikely he will be offered a route back.

He was linked with the club back in January, but then-manager Martin O’Neill opted to sign Molla Wague, who scored three times in just 11 outings for Forest.

The French side are said to be willing to allow Lacroix to leave on a free transfer, despite having a year left to run on his current deal.

Nottingham Forest will start their 2019/20 Championship season against Slaven Bilic’s West Bromwich Albion side.
