Hull City in advanced talks to sign former Peterborough United defender

Hull City are in advanced talks to sign former Peterborough United defender Ryan Tafazolli according to Football Insider.

The giant defender is now available on a free transfer after his contract expired with the League One club and he is now set to join the Tigers once discussions have been completed.

The 27-year-old has been the subject of interest from a host of Football League clubs but Hull now appear to have won the race for the 6ft 4in centre back.

New Hull boss Grant McCann has worked with Tafazolli before from his time at Doncaster Rovers and is now keen to link up with him once more.

The former Southampton player has established himself as one of the best defenders outside the top flight in the past few years during his time at Peterborough and McCann believes he can add real strength in depth at Hull and will be a bargain as a free agent.

He will also bring a vast amount of experience to The Tigers having made over 250 appearances in League One and League Two.

Tafazolli has also received interest from Swansea City in this transfer window and Hull would see this as a real coup should they win the race to sign him.

Attracting Championship clubs having had no prior experience in the second tier of English football is testament to his development over the last few campaigns.

There has been rumours that Tafazolli isn’t perhaps a strong enough defender to be a regular for Hull City but he must certainly be worth a gamble on a free transfer.
