Leeds United keen on ex-Manchester City striker

Leeds United are expected to be busy in this transfer window, as they look to push for promotion once more, having missed out in the play-offs last season. As a result, they are turning their transfer attentions to Serie A.

Lazio fan page, The Lazali, reports via Ecuadorian website, Futbol Imperio EC that Marcelo Bielsa is keen on 30 year-old striker, Felipe Caicedo.

Leeds’ striker problems were well documented last season, with Kemar Roofe and Patrick Bamford both missing large chunks of the season due to injury, as well as coming under-fire during poor spells of form.

Caicedo started his career at FC Basel, before joining the Manchester City revolution back in 2008, spending three years as a City player, making just 26 league appearances during his time at the Etihad Stadium.

The powerful frontman has since embarked on spells as Lokomotiv Moscow, Al Jazira and Espanyol where he was largely successful – before his move to Italy back in 2017.

Caicedo scored eight goals in 28 outings for the Roman outfit last season, helping his side to an eighth place finish in Serie A last season, seven points adrift of fierce rivals, AS Roma, in the final European place.

However, interest is said to also come from China, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates. So despite any interest the Whites may have in Caicedo, they may fall short financially, with the likelihood being that any financial package offered to the Lazio man would fall short of any that came from the aforementioned countries.

Caicedo scored 22 goals in 68 games for his national team, and also represented Ecuador in two World Cups but retired from international duty two years ago.

His powerful and uncompromising approach means he often becomes a fan favourite at clubs, never a prolific goalscorer, but often unselfish and unforgiving.

Do you think Leeds are in need of another striker as they look to bounce back from last season’s disappointment?
