Chelsea defender completes permanent move to Bristol City

Tomas Kalas, the Czech international who impressed during his season long loan at Bristol City, has signed on a permanent basis for the Robins.

Kalas, 26, has signed for Bristol City for a club record fee, which is believed to be around the £8 million mark. The centre back has played a total of two games for Chelsea throughout his nine years there, but now he starts a new adventure with a permanent club.

The social media team announced Kalas brilliantly by showing fans tweets which are saying, #AnnounceKalas. The club social media team, who were recognised for the goal gifs that became so popular, put all of these tweets in a video, then flew a drone in front of Ashton Gate Stadium, where Kalas was sat on top with the new unreleased away shirt on.

They used the caption “Czech this out…”

The permanent signing of Tomas Kalas is a real statement from Bristol City and Lee Johnson, it shows that they want a play-off spot that they were so close to last time out, and with this permanent signing they may be one step closer.

Bristol City have announced three signings in one day on July 1st, which shows there intent.

In an interview posted on Twitter Kalas said “Everyone made me feel welcome, and I know where i’m coming, its not like a new club where I have to settle in”. He went on to say, ” I want to help the club and the fans to get to where they want to be… and that is the promise land!”

Overall, being a Robins fan, I am delighted with the signing of Kalas, and I think this is a great way to show that we want to get to the Premier League!
