Birmingham City keen on signing Swansea City and Ecuador winger

Birmingham City are keen on signing Swansea City winger Jefferson Montero.

The 29-year-old worked with the Blues’ caretaker boss Pep Clotet with the Swans and could reunite with him at St Andrews this summer, according to journalist Alan Nixon on Twitter.

Montero, who is an Ecuador international with 64 caps to his name, has fallen out-of-favour at the Liberty Stadium and could leave them again over the coming weeks. He spent the second-half of last season on loan at West Bromwich Albion but made just four appearances for the Baggies.

Nevertheless, he has proven in the past he can be a handful on the wing and if Clotet can get the best out of him he could be a useful player for Birmingham next season.

Montero played 11 times for the Swans last season in the Championship before he headed on loan to the Hawthorns in the January transfer window.

He joined the Welsh side in July 2014 from Mexican side Morelia and has played just under 100 times for the Swans altogether since then as well as having loan spells away at Getafe and Emelec.

Prior to moving to Swansea, Montero had enjoyed spells at Emelec (first stint there), Independiente del Valle, Dorados, Villarreal, Levante, Real Betis and Morelia in a well travelled career.

Birmingham could be his next move if they can strike a deal with Swansea. He would offer the Blues more pace and power out wide.
