West Brom closing in on new deal for midfield starlet

According to Birmingham Live, West Brom’s highly sought after midfielder Rekeem Harper is closing in on a deal which will see him commit his future to the Baggies after holding talks with new manager Slaven Bilic.

It has been widely reported over the course of the past few months that West Brom have been trying to tie down young midfield star Rekeem Harper to a new deal at the Hawthorns, with his contract set to expire this summer.

The two parties have struggled to make progress in talks. However, it has been claimed that after encouraging talks with new manager Slaven Bilic, Harper is closer to signing a new deal with the Championship club. A number of top sides are keen on the youngster this summer and this latest development will come as a dent to them.

Champions League finalists Liverpool and Spurs have both been credited with interest in the 18-year-old, with Italian giants Juventus also said keen on Harper.

Harper emerged into the West Brom first-team picture during the course of last season, playing a total of 23 games across all competitions for the club, including seven games for the Baggies’ second-string side in the Premier League 2. He made his debut for the club back in August 2017, coming off the bench against Bournemouth in the Premier League.

Harper emerged from the club’s youth academy, joining the likes of Sam Field and Kyle Edwards in making the step up from the academy and into the first-team.

Now, the Baggies will be hoping to press on with negotiations to ensure that Harper is tied down to a new deal ahead of the new season, with Slaven Bilic looking to lead a promotion charge in the 2019/20 campaign.
