Aberdeen targeting move for Sunderland midfielder

Aberdeen are targeting Sunderland midfielder Dylan McGeouch.

The 26-year-old is likely to leave the Black Cats this summer with a move back up to Scotland a possibility, according to a report by the Daily Record.

The Dons tried to sign him last summer from Hibernian but he opted for a move to the Black Cats. However, he has struggled to make an impact with the North-East side in his first year there.

McGeouch, who is a Scotland international with two caps to his name, featured just 22 times for Jack Ross’ side last season as they failed to gain promotion from League One.

He started his career at Celtic as a youngster but left for Rangers in 2008. He returned to Celtic in 2011 and went onto play 27 games for the Scottish giants. He had a loan spell at Coventry City in January 2014 for the remainder of the 2013/14 season where he played 8 games for them in League One.

McGeouch was then loaned out to Hibernian for the 2014/15 campaign and was later signed on a permanent basis by the Edinburgh side in August 2015. He helped Hibs win the Scottish Cup in 2016 and also was the Scottish Championship title in 2017.

Aberdeen could be his next destination after a disappointing stint at Sunderland. Derek McInnes’ side are in the hunt for some reinforcements to their midfield and McGeouch fits the bill due to his experience in Scotland.

The Dons signed midfielder Craig Bryson from Derby County on a free transfer earlier this month.
