Aston Villa’s £12 million bid prompts Bristol City to slap £30 million price tag on star man

Bristol Live has reported that Championship side Bristol City have placed a massive £30 million price tag on the head of star defender Adam Webster to try and fend off interest from a number of Premier League clubs.

It has been reported here on The72 that a host of Premier League sides are keeping a close eye on centre-back Adam Webster of Bristol City. Newcastle United, Everton, Southampton, Burnley and Watford have all made their interest in the 23-year-old known, but it is Aston Villa who have reportedly made the first move to try and sign the former Ipswich Town man this summer.

The Villans have reportedly made an offer of £12 million to try and tempt Webster away from Ashton Gate. However, their efforts have been knocked back in style by the Robins, who have slapped an asking price of £30 million of the head of Webster.

Webster formed a strong centre-back partnership with Tomas Kalas – who Lee Johnson is looking to bring back this summer – over the course of last season. He played in 47 games for Bristol City across all competitions, including 44 in the Championship, scoring three goals along the way.

The Robins only brought the defender in last summer and they are hoping to keep him at the club for a while yet as Lee Johnson prepares for the 2019/20 season. While Webster’s performances over the course of last season showed that he is highly capable of competing at the top end of the Championship, interested clubs will be put off by the club’s £30 million asking price.
