Wigan Athletic eyeing up move for Huddersfield Town midfielder – Sheffield United also keen

Football Insider has claimed that Huddersfield Town midfielder Jonathan Hogg is being eyed up by fellow Championship side Wigan Athletic amid their relegation to the second tier.

We reported here on The72 last week that newly promoted Sheffield United are keen on Huddersfield Town midfielder Jonathan Hogg, offering him a Premier League lifeline after the Terriers’ relegation in the 2018/19 season. Now, it has been claimed that they could face competition for his signature.

Hogg is attracting interest from Wigan Athletic this summer, and the Latics are reportedly eyeing up a possible swoop for the 30-year-old midfielder. The report writes that the Huddersfield Town man is attracting interest given his contract at The John Smith’s Stadium.

Hogg’s deal with Huddersfield is set to expire at the end of next season, so interested clubs could look to capitalise this summer with the Terriers likely to be unwilling to let him leave on the cheap. Jan Siewert will be keen to keep the Huddersfield favourite, as they prepare for life back in the Championship.

Hogg has been an influential player during his time with the Terriers, playing 194 games during his six years at the club. He has scored two goals and provided four assists along the way, playing an important role, guarding the back line. He was an important figure in the 2016/17 season when they won promotion to the Premier League and featured heavily in their time in the top-flight, playing 64 league games in the past two seasons.

Huddersfield fans will be hoping Hogg can’t be tempted away from the club this summer, but with his contract expiring next summer, it will be interesting to see how his situation develops.
