West Bromwich Albion’s Salomon Rondon has been the subject of a failed bid from West Ham United according to the Daily Star.
West Ham have reportedly offered £10million plus Sam Byram and Jordan Hugill however this has been rejected by the Baggies.
With the sacking of Rafael Benitez at Newcastle it is believed that Manuel Pellegrini has attempted to swoop for the Venezuelan and lure him to the London Stadium.
Rondon has returned to the Hawthorns after a successful loan spell at Newcastle where he scored 11 goals in 32 appearances and is currently on Copa America duty.
Albion’s technical director Luke Dowling confirmed yesterday that the South American would be sold this summer in order to free up funds and prevent him from leaving for nothing with his contract being up at the end of next season.
West Ham boss Pellegrini is wishing to link up with Rondon once more after they previously worked together at Malaga and is in the market for a target centre forward due to the departure of Andy Carroll.
Byram spent last season on loan at Nottingham Forest whilst Hugill was on loan at Middlesbrough but it seems the deal isn’t enough to tempt the Midlands side.
The Hammers are looking to trim their squad side before bringing in new signings but they are determined to persevere with Rondon as West Brom boss Slaven Bilic tries to recoup some money to reinvest in his new squad for next season’s promotion push.
West Ham will need to increase their offer and re-evaluate if they are to sign the 29-year-old forward but it is not unthinkable that they could yet move on to other targets if they are unsuccessful again.
