West Brom “not happy at all” with Celtic manager over treatment of loan man

West Brom technical director Luke Dowling has said that there is no chance that winger Oliver Burke will be returning to loan club Celtic summer after they were left fuming with the Scottish club’s treatment of the Scot.

Speaking to the Express and Star, West Brom technical director Luke Dowling has blasted Celtic for the treatment Oliver Burke received during his time playing under Neil Lennon.

After struggling to make an impact at the Hawthorns, West Brom opted to send Burke out on loan in the January transfer window to give him some first-team game time to try and develop his skills. Burke joined Celtic and during his time with the club, the 22-year-old played 19 times, scoring four goals and providing three assists along the way.

After the departure of Brendan Rodgers to Premier League side Leicester City, Burke featured rarely under Lennon and was only used as a sub by the former Celtic midfielder. Speaking about Burke’s time under Lennon, Dowling didn’t elaborate on the reasons why Burke won’t be returning to Celtic Park but was stern in his answers, saying:

“He won’t be going nowhere near Celtic with the current manager,” the Baggies’ technical director said.

“They know what’s gone on and Oli certainly knows what’s gone on. It’s just something we’re not happy with at all.

“We sent Oli to Celtic in good faith with Brendan Rodgers and Lee Congerton, some really good people up there that wanted to take Oli and wanted to play Oli. They wanted to make him a better player than he currently is. We forget how young he still is.

“Once Brendan left to go to Leicester the treatment he got from the manager that’s in place now is something we don’t expect for one of our players. He won’t be going anywhere near Celtic.”
