Hull City’s 2016 Play-Off hero set for Qatar move- Blow for Sheffield Wednesday

Reported Sheffield Wednesday target Mohamed Diame is set to join Qatari club Al Gharafa.

The 32-year-old is on the verge of signing a two-year deal with the Qatar Stars League side, as per a report by the Sheffield Star.

Diame, who is a Senegal international with 31 caps to his name, was released by Premier League side Newcastle United at the end of the season.

He worked with Sheffield Wednesday boss Steve Bruce at both Wigan Athletic and Hull City and was linked with a reunion with him this summer at Hillsborough.

Diame scored the goal that fired the Tigers into the Premier League against the Owls at Wembley in the 2016 Championship Play-Off final.

The 6ft midfielder played for the likes of Lens and Rayo Vallecano before moving to England to join Wigan Athletic in 2009. He spent three years at the DW Stadium before switching to West Ham United.

Diame played 79 times for the Hammers prior to his move to Hull in 2014. He made 57 appearances for the Tigers, chipping in with 14 goals.

He later moved onto Newcastle United and helped them get promoted to the top flight in his first season at the club.

A move to Qatar is now the cards for Diame after ten years in England. Al-Gharafa are now managed by ex-Watford and Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic. They are also the home to Dutch midfielder Wesley Sneijder as well as former Manchester City and Bolton Wanderers winger Vladimir Weiss.
