Bristol City seal deal for young attacking duo

Young strikers Saikou Janneh and Antoine Semenyo have today signed long-term contracts for Bristol City.

The pair had been subject to Premier League interest and boss Lee Johnson will therefore be delighted to tie them down at Ashton Gate for another four years.

Janneh spent last season on loan to Torquay United, where he helped the Gulls to promotion. Janneh scored 17 goals in 29 appearances during his loan-spell and resultantly has attracted a number of admirers in the Championship and Premier League. The Gambian goalscorer is only 19 years old, and has a bright future ahead of him. Robins’ fans will be hoping that his prolific goal scoring can be replicated in the first team.

Similarly, Antoine Semenyo has signed a four-year contract at Ashton Gate. Following a successful loan spell at Newport County, the young striker had also been subject to interest from Premier League giants Manchester United and Chelsea. Semenyo first attracted national attention during a televised FA Cup fixture against Leicester City, in which Semenyo won the man of the match award. His dazzling display even encouraged Bristol City to recall him to the first-team, where he became a regular in the match-day squad and put in some fine performances, including a goal away to Preston North End.

The Robins have a successful history of developing young players, with Bobby Reid, Lloyd Kelly and Joe Bryan all starting in the Bristol City academy before making high-profile moves to the Premier League. It is believed that Janneh and Semenyo will one-day play Premier League football, however thanks to their new contracts, it appears that their immediate futures remain at Ashton Gate.
