Barnsley snap up talented Chelsea stopper

Brad Collins has left Stamford Bridge, to join Barnsley on a free transfer.

The 22 year old goalkeeper has played no games for Chelsea during his two years at Stamford Bridge. For both of the years he has been loaned out to lower league clubs for him to gain experience, and ultimately Chelsea have decided not to renew his contract.

For the first season he was on loan, he played 39 games for Forest Green Rovers and in his second season away from Stamford Bridge he played 31 games for Burton Albion (In the league). Overall including cup games he has played a total of 80 games which is very good for someone who is so young.

When asked about his move away he said this,” you just want to keep progressing as a footballer.”

He told the Barnsley website, ” the vision here is good, there’s a group of lads who are hungry to play and play the right way”.

Collins joins the Tykes, as they look to stay in the Championship in the upcoming season, in their first game they will play the relegated Fulham side. So therefore they face a tough test in order to gain three points on their opening game.

Overall, I think that the addition of Brad Collins is a good one for Barnsley, as he is a young upcoming goalkeeper who with a bit more Championship experience he could be an extremely good keeper. Barnsley travel away Brentford on their last game of the season, so Collins will travel back to London for the end of the 2019/20 season.
