Shock favourite to take the reins at Birmingham City

In recent times, Birmingham City have been in the headlines but as reported yesterday it was for all the wrong reasons as Garry Monk was sacked.

It now appears that the shock favourite to take the reins at St Andrews is Spanish coach Xavier Calm as reported by TalkSport.

The controversial decision to sack Monk has been greeted by plenty of criticism from the Blues faithful as the hierarchy stated the choice was made as they look to “adopt a fresh and modern footballing philosophy.”

Their statement yesterday claimed: “The club has a pool of talented players and those emerging via the Academy and Under-23s will be embraced, even more so than before. We are certain these young players – as those in our first team already – will be hungry to succeed as we begin a new chapter.”

It is now in dispute that the former Swansea boss did an incredible job at Blues, leading them away from the relegation zone last season despite a nine point deduction before the end of the season.

From the outside it seems as though Monk and the club’s owners weren’t in agreement regarding the future of the club and the transfer policies.

The decision to part company with the 40-year-old was seen as a bizarre one in the media and it comes as even more of a shock to learn that Xavier Calm is now the frontrunner for the job having just left his job with UE Cornella.

Fans were left baffled by the news and protests and returns of season tickets have been threatened by some supporters who have voiced their displeasure at the loss of Monk who has been seen as the main reason for Blues’ recent incline and reforming the relationship between the club and the fans.

As well as Xavier Calm, Chris Hughton, Danny Cowley and Nigel Adkins have also been sounded out for the job.
