Swindon Town snap up former MK Dons defender

Swindon Town have completed the signing of defender Mathieu Baudry, as announced by the club’s official website.

The experienced Baudry joins having been released by MK Dons, who he endured a difficult spell with due to injury problems.

The 31-year-old began his professional career in France with Troyes, before moving to England when Bournemouth added him to their ranks. He found first-team opportunites limited under Cherries boss Eddie Howe and and subsequently spent time on loan at Dagenham & Redbridge.

A four-year spell with Leyton Orient followed, where he served as captain and became a regular presence in O’s side. Baudry left Orient in 2016 to join Doncaster Rovers, who he helped win promotion to the third tier and represented in League One before signing for MK Dons.

The defender becomes the fourth new addition to Swindon’s squad and Robins manager Richie Wellens was full of praise for his latest recruit:

“Mathieu’s experienced – a very good character. I was aware of him at Doncaster where he won promotion from this league. He can read the game well – he’s a good size and a good character.”

The defender also spoke after putting pen to paper at the Energy Check County Ground:

“I’m happy to get it done. For a while now my choice was made and it was just that I was away but I’ve been looking forward to get it done. I’m looking forward to getting to know everyone and getting started.”

Swindon’s backline is evidently an area that Wellens is keen to strengthen, as the arrival of Baudry follows the signing of former Manchester United defender Ezekiel Fryers.
