Doncaster Rovers’ Grant McCann is the favourite for the vacant Hull City job.
The Tigers are in the hunt for a new manager to replace Nigel Adkins. The likes of Michael Appleton, Danny Cowley, Sol Campbell and Paul Heckingbottom have been linked thus far.
However, McCann’s name has come out of nowhere and into the running for the position. He is now the odds-on 8/11 favourite on SkyBet.
The 39-year-old had an impressive first season at the helm of Doncaster Rovers in the last campaign and got them into the League One Play-Offs.
Prior to his move to the Keepmoat Stadium, McCann got his first taste of management at Peterborough United. His Posh side finished 11th in League One in his first campaign at the club but he was sacked in February 2018.
McCann played over 450 games in his career for the likes of West Ham United, Barnsley, Scunthorpe United and Peterborough before going into coaching.
The former Northern Ireland international spent time at Hull’s training ground with Nigel Adkins in March last year so already has a taste of the club.
It would be a surprise to see McCann leave Doncaster this summer with the long-term plan he has set there but he may see a move to Hull as too good of an opportunity to turn down.
The Tigers have been interviewing potential candidates so far this week and are hoping to get a new boss in for the start of pre-season.
