Millwall considering move for Queens Park Rangers striker

A report from London News Online has claimed that Queens Park Rangers striker Matt Smith is one of the names on the shortlist of fellow Championship side Millwall.

Millwall are in the market for a new striker this summer with top goalscorer and fan favourite set to make a move away from The Den upon the expiry of his contract. And now, it has been claimed that Queens Park Rangers man Matt Smith is on the list of Neil Harris’ transfer targets.

Smith scored eight goals and provided one assist for Queens Park Rangers last season, playing in 42 games across all competitions. Most of his appearances were off the bench playing second fiddle to both Tomer Hemed and Nahki Wells over the course of the season.

The 198cm striker uses his height and strength to his advantage in his game, proving to be a physical handful for defenders up and down the Football League over the course of his career. Playing for the likes of Macclesfield Town, Bristol City, Leeds United, Fulham, Oldham Athletic and QPR, Smith has amassed 307 career appearances, scoring 74 goals and providing 30 assists along the way.

A number of players including Portsmouth’s Jamal Lowe and Ipswich Town’s Bartosz Bialkowski have been linked with moves to Millwall this summer. Speaking about reported transfer targets, Neil Harris said:

“We’ve been linked with players. Some are right and some come completely from nowhere, players from countries where we’ve never heard of the player. We have never recruited from abroad, so it’s not likely we will sign one from Outer Mongolia on a 12-year contract.

“Some will be true – that we have enquired about or made a bid for.

“Sometimes reports come out but we like to do our business in private and not alert other clubs to what we’re doing and what we’re spending. When it does come out it comes out from one place – and that’s an agent.

“I won’t be talking about individual players at other clubs.”
