The Sun journalist Alan Nixon has reported that Blackburn Rovers star centre-back Darragh Lenihan is a “long-term target” for newly promoted side Sheffield United.
Centre-back Darragh Lenihan has been a hit at Ewood Park since nailing down a place in the club’s first-team after emerging from the Blackburn Rovers youth academy. He was a star performer over the course of the 2018/19 Championship season and his performances have not gone unnoticed.
Newly promoted Sheffield United have held a long-term interest in the Republic of Ireland international, and with Alan Nixon reporting that Rovers could look to bring Grant Hanley back to the club this summer, he has said that it could open the door for the Blades to make a move this summer. Nixon tweeted on Sunday morning:
BLACKBURN. Surprise interest in old boy Grant Hanley. Poss loan deal with NORWICH. Wonder if that opens door for a SHEFF U bid for long term target Lenihan.

Lenihan has been a fixture in the Rovers backline since the arrival of Tony Mowbray. The 25-year-old has played 126 games for the Championship outfit, playing an important role in the second half of their promotion-winning 2017/18 campaign.
Chris Wilder is looking to bring in some new faces this summer ahead of Sheffield United’s return to the Premier League. A number of first-team players left Bramall Lane this summer with the club opting not to renew their deals, so it looks set to be a busy summer for the club.
Blackburn boss Tony Mowbray will be determined to keep Lenihan with the club this summer. Sheffield United are yet to make any sort of approach for the defender, but with a long summer transfer window ahead, the Blades could look to make their move – especially if Rovers bring in Grant Hanley.
