Leeds United are prepared to sell goalkeeper Kiko Casilla this summer, Football Insider have revealed.
Casilla, 32, joined The Whites on a four-and-a-half year deal in January, though has had his future at the club is in doubt following their failure to achieve promotion to the Premier League. However, it is understood that Leeds would demand a transfer fee of £4 million to ensure a profit on the Spanish goalkeeper.
Casilla immediately usurped Bailey Peacock-Farrell upon his arrival from Real Madrid, a testament to his extensive career in the Spain’s La Liga. The once-capped Spain international made 19 appearances for the Yorkshire club in the second half of the season. However, Casilla’s performances fell short of expectations, highlighted by his disastrous performance in the Play-Off semi-final second-leg against Derby.
This news comes just one day after Leeds were linked with a loan move for Bournemouth goalkeeper Mark Travers. Casilla is currently on a deal worth £30,000 per week, and it is clear the Whites would rather reinvest in their squad before their next attempt at achieving promotion to the Premier League. Furthermore, there appears no shortage of suitors for Casilla, with multiple top-flight Spanish clubs being linked to Casilla throughout the month.
Leeds led the Championship when Casilla joined for £3 million in January, and look destined to ascend to the Premier League. However, following Play-Off defeat at the hands of Derby County, Casilla seems destined for a return to his native Spain. The promise of top-flight football will likely prove too much for the goalkeeper to resist, with this being one of the main attractions of joining the Whites in the January transfer window.
