Former Blackburn Rovers defender joins Bradford City

Bradford City have bolstered their ranks with the signing of former Blackburn Rovers defender Adam Henley, as announced by the club’s official website

The 25-year-old has become City’s sixth signing of the summer, reuniting with Bantams boss Gary Bowyer after working with him whilst on the books of Blackburn.

Born in the United States, Henley returned to his country of birth in 2018, swapping Blackburn Rovers for Real Salt Lake of Major League Soccer. However, Henley has now returned to England and agreed terms on a one-year deal at the Northern Commercials Stadium.

After putting pen to paper, Henley claimed that the opportunity to work with Bowyer again was a factor in his decision to make the move, as were the club’s supporters:

“I am over the moon to be here and am looking forward to putting good performances in for this team. Signing for such a big club was a no-brainer for me.

“Gary (Bowyer) was one of the main attractions. I do not think there is another manager out there who knows me as well as him.

“The supporters were also a huge factor in my decision to sign for City. To have this kind of support from the fans gives players a huge boost.

“The main aim, from my point of view, is helping to get this club back to where it belongs. That has to be the only goal.”

Henley boasts senior caps for Wales and also appeared in the Premier League whilst with Blackburn. However, Bowyer believes that the defender’s versatility and pace will be just as beneficial as his top flight experience:

“Adam is someone I know well from my time at Blackburn. I am really pleased we have been able to bring him here.

“He burst onto the scene at 17, playing at Anfield and Old Trafford in the space of a few days, before earning a senior Wales call-up.

“Adam has pace to burn and can operate in both full-back positions. With a full pre-season under his belt, he will become a real asset to our club.”

The arrival of Henley comes just a day after City secured the services of Dunfermline Athletic defender Jackson Longridge.
