Sheffield United linked with shock bid for Bayern Munich star

Sheffield United have been linked with a shock bid to sign Bayern Munich legend Franck Ribery according to German outlet Kicker.

Ribery has been at Bayern since 2007 and has scored 86 goals in 273 appearances and is rightfully considered a club legend.

He is however reportedly looking for one more challenge before he hangs up his boots and the Premier League new boys are looking at acquiring his services.

The Frenchman has spent 12 seasons with the German giants and picked up nine Bundesliga titles, many domestic cups and even a Champions League trophy back in 2012/13.

It may seem a long shot for United to be able to lure a player of Ribery’s stature to Bramall Lane but he is reportedly looking to make a name for himself in the Premier League.

However there are also sources claiming that he could still sign a new one year contract with Bayern with his current contract having expired.

Another notable reason why this may not happen would be the 36-year-old’s wage demands. He is likely to be on an excessive sum at the Allianz Arena and with their limited budget, the Blades would struggle to match the figure that Ribery would likely demand.

Chris Wilder is looking to bring in young and hungry players and with Ribery entering the twilight of his career it may not be the most viable option for the club.

There is no doubt that Ribery even at 36-years-old can still compete at the highest level but with his experience and quality it would take an almighty effort for Sheffield United to land the Bayern Munich legend.
