Leeds United, Sheffield United and Derby County target attracting strong interest confirms club official

Carlisle United Director of Football David Holdsworth has said that it is true that young winger Liam McCarron is attracting interest from a number of sides after it was claimed that Leeds United, Sheffield United and Derby County were among the sides keen on the youngster.

We reported here on The72 last week that Carlisle United starlet Liam McCarron was on the radar of Championship sides Leeds United and Derby County, Premier League outfit Wolves and newly promoted Sheffield United.

Now, Carlisle official David Holdsworth has confirmed that a “number of clubs” are keen on McCarron this summer, also adding that young defender Jarrad Branthwaite is also attracting interest from clubs up the Football League ladder. He said to the News and Star:

“We have received interest from a number of parties regarding both Jarrad Branthwaite and Liam McCarron.”

McCarron broke into the first-team picture with Carlisle United during the 2018/19 League Two season, playing in 20 matches across all competitions in his first season of senior football. He came through the youth academy at Brunton Park before making his debut for the club in September 2018, coming off the bench against Tranmere Rovers.

His contract with Carlisle United will be expiring in the summer of 2020 and the club could look to cash in on the 18-year-old this summer to avoid losing him on the cheap. McCarron is believed to be available for £250,000 this summer, a shrewd fee four clubs the size of Leeds United, Derby County, Sheffield United and Wolves.
