Leeds United interest in Costa – Wolves want swap deal

It was music to Leeds fans ears when the Yorkshire Evening Post’s chief Leeds writer Phil Hay wrote earlier about Wolves’ plans to offload Helder Costa this summer – the Whites’ “top target.”

Leeds have got history of dealing with Wolves after they acquired Barry Douglas from them last summer, and it looks as though the pair might be meeting over the negotiating table once again, this time about the Portuguese winger who accompanied Douglas in that title winning side of 17/18.

Although this sounds like a dream scenario for Leeds fans, this news comes with a but… and you might want to look away now.

Football Insider are claiming that Wolves are very keen on bringing United midfielder Kalvin Phillips to Molineux and have suggested that a swap deal involving the two players could be on the cards.

Phillips, or the Yorkshire Pirlo as he’s been affectionately dubbed, was a key man in the defensive midfielder role for the Elland Road club last season and he also admirably filled in at centre back when injuries mounted up.

Bielsa is bound to be reluctant to let him go however, as he has said how important he is to his system on numerous occasions.

It’s difficult to predict how Leeds fans would take it if this one went ahead. On the one hand they are crying out for a top-quality winger, which Costa undoubtedly is at this level. On the other hand they have bemoaned the clubs past decisions to profit from their homegrown talents, of which there have been many.
