West Bromwich Albion manager hunt takes a fresh twist

It was in the media yesterday that talks between West Bromwich Albion and Slaven Bilic were going well as is still the case however there is now a spanner in the works according to the Express & Star.

Chris Wilder is well known to also be of interest to the Baggies and with the current court case going on at Sheffield United, there could be a chance of landing the 51-year-old.

It’s been claimed in court that Wilder will leave the Blades if Prince Abdullah of Saudi Arabia wins his bitter legal battle with joint-owner Kevin McCabe.

The court case is currently ongoing and due to last for another two weeks and its thought that the Midlands side are wary of allowing the managerial search to go on much longer without finding a successor to Darren Moore.

Should West Brom hold out for Wilder and not manage to lure him to the club, Bilic could also not be happy with being kept waiting in the wings and it may leave the Baggies with no options at all.

Championship side Middlesbrough are also said to be monitoring the LMA Manager of the Year’s situation for their vacant manager’s position.

Although Wilder would naturally be an attractive appointment for the Baggies to consider, waiting for a potential walk-out that might never happen would represent a gamble.

In court yesterday, Paul Downes QC, representing McCabe’s company SUL, said: “Mr Chris Wilder is emotionally attached to Sheffield United and feels a great deal of love and loyalty to Kevin McCabe personally. Kevin McCabe has been attacked in this case and he [Wilder] is not going to stay is he if Prince Abdullah wins?”

Chris Hughton is also not completely out of the running and is still being considered although him having to take a pay cut to take the reins could prove to be a stumbling block.

There is no doubt that any one of these three candidates would be a good appointment but fans are beginning to get very frustrated with the lack of movement on the managerial front and a decision will need to be made as soon as possible.
