Leeds United could possibly profit from latest Aspire deal

Leeds United last season were a side that was definitely in transition last season, and what a transition it was.

The season before, the 2017/18 campaign was your traditional Leeds United campaign in the Sky Bet Championship. The Whites started well, topping the table at one point, before the all too familiar slide saw them drop to a final 13th place.

In essence, that mid-table finish was thoroughly deserved for a side that underachieved massively. That made last season’s transformation all that more impressive as a Marcelo Bielsa inspired Leeds United finished 3rd, and fell agonisingly short in the Play-Off Semi-Final game against Derby County.

It will be a different Leeds United who fire out of the blocks in August as they look to profit from Bielsa agreeing a second season in charge of the Whites. Fans are already seeing a difficult summer ahead what with owner Andrea Radrizzani saying that a ‘difficult’ transfer window will need to be negotiated this summer.

Away from the playing side, well sort of, is news that Aspire Academy boss, and Leeds United board member, Ivan Bravo has led a group that has taken over Spanish second-tier side AD Alcarcón. Nothing much there really, but it was a Bravo-led Aspire who forged links with Leeds United, granting the former Real Madrid employee a seat at the Whites boardroom table.

It also led to a bizarre link-up with Leeds United using Aspire’s link-up with now third-tier Cultural Leonesa to send players Yosuke Ideguchi and Ouasim Buoy out on loan. Both those deals were wastes of time for the players and club alike – neither getting anything out of the hook-up.

Which makes this hook-up all the more intriguing. Alcorcon finished 14th in last season’s LaLiga2 competition and are a much stronger outfit than Leonesa were. La Segunda is also a more than decent level of competition, much better than Sky Bet Leagues One and Two of our domestic football.

This all begs a very straightforward question – should it be an avenue that Leeds United exploit? After all, the Whites do have a surfeit of players and they are looking to trim back a little in the interests of streamlining.

With that in mind, then AD Alcorón would be the ideal place to send out some of Leeds United’s young blood, indeed spare blood. Of course, the Whites would need to see that the players sent out to Spain would be utilised in a better fashion that Ideguchi and Buoy were with Leonesa.
